Scope note: Familia de glucoproteínas de la matriz extracelular estructuralmente similares a las PROTEÍNAS DE UNIÓN A TGF-BETA LATENTE pero que contienen dominios adicionales de unión a TGF-beta además de los dominios característicos en los extremos N y C. Las fibrilinas se ensamblan en forma de MICROFIBRILLAS de 10-12 nm que intervienen en distintos tipos de interacciones celulares con la MATRIZ EXTRACELULAR y en procesos del desarrollo como el mantenimiento y ensamblaje del TEJIDO ELÁSTICO y el direccionamiento de los factores de crecimiento hacia la matriz extracelular.

Scope note: A family of extracellular matrix glycoproteins that is structurally similar to LATENT TGF-BETA BINDING PROTEINS, but contain additional TGF-beta binding domains, in addition to unique domains at their N and C-terminals. Fibrillins assemble into 10-12 nm MICROFIBRILS that function in a variety of cell interactions with the EXTRACELLULAR MATRIX and developmental processes such as ELASTIC TISSUE maintenance and assembly, and the targeting of growth factors to the extracellular matrix.
