La heparina se da en el hígado, pulmón, células cebadas, etc de los vertebrados y se obtiene de dichos órganos. Su función es desconocida, pero se utiliza para prevenir la coagulación sanguínea in vivo e in vitro, en forma de muchas sales diferentes.
