Scope note: Orden de INSECTOS acuáticos que comprende alrededor de 2.500 especies distribuidas por todo el mundo. Es el único grupo de insectos con dos etapas de vuelo, cada una de ellas con relativamente grandes alas delanteras. La etapa inmadura denominada náyade o ninfa dura un año en agua dulce, y la etapa adulta es efímera, pues dura entre varios minutos y un día, dependiendo de las especies. El orden Ephemeroptera incluye a las moscas de mayo (también conocidas como efímeras).
