Scope note: 3,7-Dimetilxantina. Se trata del principal alcaloide de la Theobroma cacao (el grano del cacao) y otras plantas. Un alcaloide de xantina que se utiliza como broncodilatador y vasodilatador. Tiene una actividad diurética más débil que la TEOFILINA y es también un estimulante menos poderoso del músculo liso. No tiene prácticamente ningún efecto estimulador sobre el sistema nervioso central. Antiguamente se utilizó como diurético y en el tratamiento de la angina de pecho.

It has a weaker diuretic activity than THEOPHYLLINE and is also a less powerful stimulant of smooth muscle. It has practically no stimulant effect on the central nervous system.
