Scope note: Antibiótico antivírico producido por Cephalosporium aphidicola y otros hongos. Inhibe el crecimiento de las células eucarióticas y de ciertos virus animales al inhibir selectivamente la replicación celular de la ADN polimerasa II o las ADN polimerasas inducidas por virus. El fármaco puede ser de utilidad para el control de una excesiva proliferación celular en pacientes con cáncer, psoriasis u otras dermatitis, con escasos o nulos efectos adversos sobre las células que no se están multiplicando.
