Scope note: Es el continente más grande. Fue conocido por los romanos, específicamente lo que nosotros conocemos en la actualidad como Asia Menor. El nombre puede derivarse al menos de dos fuentes posibles: del asirio asu (ascender) o del sánscrito usa (amanecer), pero ambas haciendo referencia a que es la tierra de la salida del sol, es decir, oriental, a diferencia de Europa, al oeste.
