Scope note: Género de serpientes venenosas de la familia Crotalinae. Se encuentran doce especies de este género en América del Norte y Central y en Asia. Agkistrodon contortrix es la víbora cabeza de cobre, A. piscivorus, la cíbora boca de algodón. La primera recibe tal denominación por su color bermejo o naranja-marrón, la última por el color blanco del interior de la boca.
