Scope note: Género de bacterias gramnegativas fototróficas de forma ovoide a bacilar. Todas las especies utilizan amonio como fuente de nitrógeno. Algunas cepas se encuentran sólo en hábitats de agua dulce que contienen azufre expuestos a la luz, mientras que otras pueden darse en ambientes marinos, estuarios y de agua dulce.
