Scope note: Género de la subfamilia CERCOPITHECINAE, familia CERCOPITHECIDAE, que comprende dos especies: el dril (M. leucophaeus) y el mandril (M. sphinx). Se encuentran generalmente en las selvas tropicales y tienen una temperamento moderado pese a su reputación de ser feroces. Algunos autores consideran que Mandrillus es un subgénero de PAPIO.
