Scope note: Mamíferos de la familia Phocoenidae que consta de cuatro géneros y seis especies, distribuidos en el Norte del Pacífico y a ambos lados del Océano Atlántico Norte, y en diversos mares. Difieren de los DELFINES en que las marsopas tienen un hocico en forma de trompa y un cuerpo blanco relativamente robusto, en tanto los delfines poseen un hocico en forma de pico y un cuerpo delgado y aerodinámico. Scope note: Mammals of the family Phocoenidae comprising four genera found in the North Pacific Ocean and both sides of the North Atlantic Ocean and in various other seas. They differ from DOLPHINS in that porpoises have a blunt snout and a rather stocky body while dolphins have a beak-like snout and a slender, streamlined body. They usually travel in small groups.
