Scope note: Género de bacterias gramnegativas, anaerobias facultativas, con forma bacilar que utilizan el citrato como única fuente de carbono. Son patógenas para los seres humanos, en los que producen fiebres tifoideas, gastroenteritis y bacteriemia. La intoxicación alimentaria es la manifestación clínica más frecuente. Los microorganismos de este género se clasifican según sus características antigénicas, sus patrones de fermentación de azúcares y su susceptibilidad a los bacteriófagos.
