Scope note: Gran familia de plantas del orden Apiales, también conocida como Umbelliferae. La mayoría de ellas son hierbas aromáticas, con hojas alternantes y hendidas, con una vaina en la base. Las flores suelen formas una umbela con la parte superior aplanada. Cada pequeña flor suele ser bisexual, con cinco sépalos, cinco pétalos y un gran disco en la base. Los frutos son rugosos y constan de dos partes que se separan al alcanzar la madurez.
