Scope note: Estructuras microscópicas irregulares constituidas por cordones de células endocrinas distribuidas por todo el PÁNCREAS entre los acinos exocrinos. Cada islote se encuentra rodeado de fibras de tejido conectivo y penetrado de una red de capilares. Existen cuatro principales tipos de células. Las más abundantes son las células beta (50-80 por ciento), secretoras de INSULINA. Las células alfa (5-20 por ciento) segregan GLUCAGÓN. Las células PP (10-35 por ciento) segregan JUGO PANCREÁTICO. Finalmente, las células delta (aproximadamente 5 por ciento) segregan SOMATOSTATINA.

Scope note: Irregular microscopic structures consisting of cords of endocrine cells that are scattered throughout the PANCREAS among the exocrine acini. Each islet is surrounded by connective tissue fibers and penetrated by a network of capillaries. There are four major cell types. The most abundant beta cells (50-80%) secrete INSULIN. Alpha cells (5-20%) secrete GLUCAGON. PP cells (10-35%) secrete PANCREATIC POLYPEPTIDE. Delta cells (~5%) secrete SOMATOSTATIN.
Annotation: do not confuse with LANGERHANS CELLS (skin); neoplasms = ADENOMA, ISLET CELL or CARCINOMA, ISLET CELL or their specifics
