Scope note: Depósito en forma de polvo oscuro procedente de residuos de combustibles no quemados, compuestos principalmente de CARBONO amorfo y algunos HIDROCARBUROS, que se deposita en chimeneas, tubos de escape de automóviles y otras superficies expuestas al humo. Es un producto resultante de la combustión incompleta de combustibles orgánicos ricos en carbono que tiene lugar en condiciones de bajo contenido de oxígeno. En ocasiones se denomina negro de humo o negro de carbono, y se utiliza para la fabricación de pinturas, neumáticos de automóviles y NANOTUBOS DE CARBONO.
