Órgano nodular, situado en el ABDOMEN, que alberga una mezcla de GLÁNDULAS ENDOCRINAS y GLÁNDULAS EXOCRINAS. La pequeña porción endocrina contiene los ISLOTES DE LANGERHANS, que segregan diversas hormonas en el torrente sanguíneo. La porción exocrina (PÁNCREAS EXOCRINO), más grande, consiste en una glándula acinar que segrega diversas enzimas digestivas que se vierten en el DUODENO a través del conducto pancreático.

Scope note:

A nodular organ in the ABDOMEN that contains a mixture of ENDOCRINE GLANDS and EXOCRINE GLANDS. The small endocrine portion consists of the ISLETS OF LANGERHANS secreting a number of hormones into the blood stream. The large exocrine portion (EXOCRINE PANCREAS) is a compound acinar gland that secretes several digestive enzymes into the pancreatic ductal system that empties into the DUODENUM.
