Scope note: Alcaloide de SOLANACEAE, especialmente DATURA y SCOPOLIA. La escopolamina y sus derivados cuaternarios tienen acción antimuscarínica similar a la de la ATROPINA, aunque con más efectos sobre el sistema nervioso central. Entre los múltiples usos están la premedicación anestésica, la INCONTINENCIA URINARIA, el MAREO POR MOVIMIENTO, como antiespasmódico, midriático y ciclopéjico.

Scope note: An alkaloid from SOLANACEAE, especially DATURA and SCOPOLIA. Scopolamine and its quaternary derivatives act as antimuscarinics like ATROPINE, but may have more central nervous system effects. Its many uses include an anesthetic premedication, the treatment of URINARY INCONTINENCE and MOTION SICKNESS, an antispasmodic, and a mydriatic and cycloplegic.
