Scope note: Familia de hormonas polipeptídicas termoestables que segrega el timo. Entre sus actividades biológicas se encuentran la linfocitopoyesis, la restauración de la competencia inmunitaria y el incremento de la expresión de las características y de la función de los linfocitos T. Se utilizan en el tratamiento de pacientes con inmunodeficiencias primarias o secundarias, cáncer o enfermedades relacionadas con el envejecimiento.

Scope note: Thymosin. A family of heat-stable, polypeptide hormones secreted by the thymus gland. Their biological activities include lymphocytopoiesis, restoration of immunological competence and enhancement of expression of T-cell characteristics and function. They have therapeutic potential in patients having primary or secondary immunodeficiency diseases, cancer or diseases related to aging.
