Sustancia plástica depositada por insectos u obtenidas de plantas. Las ceras son ésteres de diversos ácidos grasos con alcoholes superiores, por lo general monohídricos. La cera de farmacia es principalmente cera amarilla (cera de abeja), de cuyo material está compuesto el panal. Consta principalmente de ácido cerótico y de miricina y se utiliza para la fabricación de pomadas, cremas, etc. (Dorland, 27th ed)

A plastic substance deposited by insects or obtained from plants. Waxes are esters of various fatty acids with higher, usually monohydric alcohols. The wax of pharmacy is principally yellow wax (beeswax), the material of which honeycomb is made. It consists chiefly of cerotic acid and myricin and is used in making ointments, cerates, etc. (Dorland, 27th ed)
