Scope note: Lecho artificial de piedras, lava, coque, grava, escoria, espuma de poliuretano, esfagno, turba, cerámica o materiales plásticos, a través del cual fluyen (en sentido descendente) el agua del alcantarillado u otras aguas residuales. Esto da lugar a la formación de una capa de limo microbiano (biopelícula) que crece cubriendo el propio lecho.
