Scope note: Excrecencia epitelial de la cloaca en las aves, similar al timo de los mamíferos. Esta formación se atrofia en los seis primeros meses desde el nacimiento y, en las aves adultas, queda como un residuo fibroso. Está constituido por tejido linfoide y, antes de su involución, es el lugar donde se produce la maduración de los linfocitos B.

Scope note: An epithelial outgrowth of the cloaca in birds similar to the thymus in mammals. It atrophies within 6 months after birth and remains as a fibrous remnant in adult birds. It is composed of lymphoid tissue and prior to involution, is the site of B-lymphocyte maturation.
