Scope note: ARN constituido por dos cadenas o hebras, a diferencia del ARN monocatenario, más abundante. La mayoría de los segmentos bicatenarios se forman por transcripción del ADN, por apareamiento intramolecular de bases de secuencias complementarias invertidas separadas por un asa monocatenaria. Algunos segmentos bicatenarios de ARN son normales en todos los organismos.

Scope note: RNA consisting of two strands as opposed to the more prevalent single-stranded RNA. Most of the double-stranded segments are formed from transcription of DNA by intramolecular base-pairing of inverted complementary sequences separated by a single-stranded loop. Some double-stranded segments of RNA are normal in all organisms.
