Glucocorticoide con las propiedades generales de los corticoesteroides. Se ha usado por vía oral en el tratamiento de todas las afecciones en las que está indicado el tratamiento con corticoesteroides, a excepción de los estados de deficiencia suprarrenal, en los cuales, debido a su incapacidad de retener sodio, resulta menos adecuado que la HIDROCORTISONA con FLUDROCORTISONA suplementaria. Scope note:

A glucocorticoid with the general properties of corticosteroids. It has been used by mouth in the treatment of all conditions in which corticosteroid therapy is indicated except adrenal-deficiency states for which its lack of sodium-retaining properties makes it less suitable than HYDROCORTISONE with supplementary FLUDROCORTISONE.
