Scope note: Nucleoproteínas que, a diferencia de las HISTONAS, son insolubles en ácidos. Participan en las funciones cromosómicas; por ejemplo, se unen selectivamente al ADN, estimulan la transcripción que produce la síntesis de ARN específico en los tejidos, y experimentan cambios específicos en respuesta a distintas hormonas o fitomitógenos.

Scope note: Nucleoproteins, which in contrast to HISTONES, are acid insoluble. They are involved in chromosomal functions; e.g. they bind selectively to DNA, stimulate transcription resulting in tissue-specific RNA synthesis and undergo specific changes in response to various hormones or phytomitogens.
