Scope note: Trastorno neuropsiquiátrico que se caracteriza por una o más de las siguientes características esenciales: inmovilidad, mutismo, negativismo (negación activa o pasiva a cumplir órdenes), manierismos, estereotipias, gesticulaciones, muecas, excitación, ecolalia, ecopraxia, rigidez muscular, y estupor; en ocasiones acompañados de brotes súbitos y violentos de pánico o alucinaciones. Esta afección puede asociarse con enfermedades psiquiátricas (por ejemplo, ESQUIZOFRENIA, TRASTORNOS DEL HUMOR) o trastornos orgánicos (SÍNDROME NEUROLÉPTICO MALIGNO, ENCEFALITIS, etc.).
