Scope note: Trastorno neuropsiquiátrico que se caracteriza por una o más de las siguientes características esenciales: inmovilidad, mutismo, negativismo (negación activa o pasiva a cumplir órdenes), manierismos, estereotipias, gesticulaciones, muecas, excitación, ecolalia, ecopraxia, rigidez muscular, y estupor; en ocasiones acompañados de brotes súbitos y violentos de pánico o alucinaciones. Esta afección puede asociarse con enfermedades psiquiátricas (por ejemplo, ESQUIZOFRENIA, TRASTORNOS DEL HUMOR) o trastornos orgánicos (SÍNDROME NEUROLÉPTICO MALIGNO, ENCEFALITIS, etc.). Scope note: A neuropsychiatric disorder characterized by one or more of the following essential features: immobility, mutism, negativism (active or passive refusal to follow commands), mannerisms, stereotypies, posturing, grimacing, excitement, echolalia, echopraxia, muscular rigidity, and stupor; sometimes punctuated by sudden violent outbursts, panic, or hallucinations. This condition may be associated with psychiatric illnesses (e.g., SCHIZOPHRENIA; MOOD DISORDERS) or organic disorders (NEUROLEPTIC MALIGNANT SYNDROME; ENCEPHALITIS, etc.).
