Scope note: Grupo heterogéneo de trastornos motores no progresivos producidos por lesiones cerebrales crónicas que se originan en el período prenatal, perinatal o en los primeros años de la vida. Los cuatro subtipos principales son espástica, atetoide, atáxica, y parálisis cerebral mixta, con formas espásticas que son las más comunes. El trastorno motor puede ir desde dificultades para el control motor fino hasta intensa espasticidad (ver ESPASTICIDAD MUSCULAR) en las extremidades. La diplejía espástica (enfermedad de Little) es el subtipo más común, y se caracteriza por espasticidad que es más intensa en las piernas que en los brazos. Anatomopatológicamente, esta afecceión puede asociarse a la LEUCOMALACIA PERIVENTRICULAR. (Rev Med Child Neurol 1998 Aug;40(8):520-7)

Scope note: A heterogeneous group of nonprogressive motor disorders caused by chronic brain injuries that originate in the prenatal period, perinatal period, or first few years of life. The four major subtypes are spastic, athetoid, ataxic, and mixed cerebral palsy, with spastic forms being the most common. The motor disorder may range from difficulties with fine motor control to severe spasticity (see MUSCLE SPASTICITY) in all limbs. Spastic diplegia (Little disease) is the most common subtype, and is characterized by spasticity that is more prominent in the legs than in the arms.
