Scope note: Células que almacenan vesículas secretoras de adrenalina. Durante los periodos de estrés, el sistema nervioso envía señales a estas vesículas para que segreguen su contenido hormonal. Su nombre deriva de su capacidad de tomar color carmelita al colorearse con sales de cromo. Característicamente, se localizan en la médula adrenal y en los paraganglios (PARAGANGLIOS CROMAFINES) del sistema nervioso simpático.

Scope note: Cells that store epinephrine secretory vesicles. During times of stress, the nervous system signals the vesicles to secrete their hormonal content. Their name derives from their ability to stain a brownish color with chromic salts. Characteristically, they are located in the adrenal medulla and paraganglia (PARAGANGLIA, CHROMAFFIN) of the sympathetic nervous system.
