Scope note: Acumulación excesiva de hierro en el organismo, producida por una absorción de hierro superior a lo normal en el tracto gastrointestinal o por la inyección parenteral. Puede producirse por hemocromatosis idiopática, consumo excesivo de hierro, alcoholismo crónico, ciertos tipos de anemias refractarias, o hemosiderosis transfusional.
