Scope note:	Infección del cerebro, la médula espinal o las estructuras perimeníngeas producida por formas larvarias del género TAENIA (principalmente T. solium en los seres humanos). Las lesiones formadas por el microorganismo se denominan cisticercos. La infección puede ser subaguda o crónica, y la gravedad de los síntomas depende de la intensidad de la respuesta inmunitaria del huésped y de la localización y el número de lesiones. Las CONVULSIONES son la manifestación clínica más frecuente, aunque pueden aparecer déficitis neurológicos focales. (Joynt, Clinical Neurology, 1998, Ch27, pp. 46-50)

Scope note:

Infection of the brain, spinal cord, or perimeningeal structures with the larval forms of the genus TAENIA (primarily T. solium in humans). Lesions formed by the organism are referred to as cysticerci. The infection may be subacute or chronic, and the severity of symptoms depends on the severity of the host immune response and the location and number of lesions. SEIZURES represent the most common clinical manifestation although focal neurologic deficits may occur. (From Joynt, Clinical Neurology, 1998, Ch27, pp46-50)
