Scope note: Género de bacterias gramnegativas que viven en simbiosis con los nemátodos de la familia Heterorhabditidae (ver RHABDITOIDEA). Estos nematodos infectan a una variedad de insectos que residen en los suelos. Al penetrar en el insecto huésped, el nematodo libera Photorhabdus, a partir de su tracto intestinal y la bacteria, establece una septicemia letal para el insecto.

Scope note: A genus of gram-negative bacteria existing symbiotically with nematodes of the family Heterorhabditidae (see RHABDITOIDEA). These nematodes infect a variety of soil-dwelling insects. Upon entering an insect host, the nematode releases Photorhabdus from its intestinal tract and the bacterium establishes a lethal septicemia in the insect.
