Scope note: Movimientos anormales involuntarios que afectan principalmente a las extremidades, tronco o mandíbula y que se producen como manifestación de un proceso patológico subyacente. Las afecciones se caracterizan por episodios recurrentes o persistentes de discinesias como manifestación primaria de la enfermedad y pueden referirse como síndromes discinéticos (ver TRASTORNOS DEL MOVIMIENTO). Las discinesias son también una manifestación relativamente común de las ENFERMEDADES DE LOS GANGLIOS BASALES.

Scope note: Abnormal involuntary movements which primarily affect the extremities, trunk, or jaw that occur as a manifestation of an underlying disease process. Conditions which feature recurrent or persistent episodes of dyskinesia as a primary manifestation of disease may be referred to as dyskinesia syndromes (see MOVEMENT DISORDERS). Dyskinesias are also a relatively common manifestation of BASAL GANGLIA DISEASES.
