Scope note: Género de plantas de la familia ARISTOLOCHIACEAE. Especies de este género se han empleado en medicina tradicional, aunque contienen acido aristolóquico, que se asocia con neuropatía. En ocasiones reciben la denominación de "raíz culebrera" si bien este nombre también se utiliza para muchas otras plantas, como la POLYGALA, la SANICULA, el ASARUM, la ARISTOLOCHIA, la AGERATINA y otras. Serpentaria aristolochia también es un remedio homeopático. Nombre científico: Aristolochia serpentaria. Sinónimos: raíz de culebra de Virginia, serpentaria. Abreviatura: "serp". Hábitat original: Norteamérica. Partes utilizadas: raíces.

Scope note: A plant genus of the family ARISTOLOCHIACEAE. Species of this genus have been used in traditional medicine but they contain aristolochic acid which is associated with nephropathy. These are sometimes called 'snakeroot' but that name is also used with a number of other plants such as POLYGALA; SANICULA; ASARUM; ARISTOLOCHIA; AGERATINA; and others.
