Scope note: A form of Traditional Chinese Medicine therapy and occupational discipline based on the principle of the movement of Qi (energy) through specific channels in the body. Acupuncture involves the insertion of needles along specific meridians through which qi, the vital energy, flows. These channels have defined points (acupoints) that are biologically active, which can be acted upon by various types of stimuli to affect the circulation of Qi and thus restore health.
