Scope note: Enfermedad crónica idiopática en cuyo desarrollo y manifestaciones influyen factores genéticos, psicosociales y medioambientales. La enfermedad es, a menudo, progresiva y mortal. Se caracteriza por alteraciones en el control del hábito de beber, preocupación por la droga alcohol, consumo del alcohol a pesar de las consecuencias adversas, y distorsiones del pensamiento, especialmente negativas. Scope note: A primary, chronic disease with genetic, psychosocial, and environmental factors influencing its development and manifestations. The disease is often progressive and fatal. It is characterized by impaired control over drinking, preoccupation with the drug alcohol, use of alcohol despite adverse consequences, and distortions in thinking, most notably denial. Each of these symptoms may be continuous or periodic.
