Scope note: Afección que se presenta a veces tras la extracción de una pieza dental, especiialmente si ha sido traumática, que conduce a un aspecto seco del hueso expuesto en el avéolo por desintegración o pérdida del coágulo sanguíneo. En esencia es una osteomielitis focal sin supuración y se acompaña de intenso dolor (alveolalgia) y mal olor. (Dorland, 28ath ed)
