Scope note:	Algas rojas cuyo color se debe al predominio del pigmento rojo (FICOERITRINA). Sin embargo, si se destruye este pigmento, las algas pueden tener un aspecto púrpura, pardo, verde o amarillo. Dos sustancias importantes halladas en las paredes celulares de las algas rojas son el AGAR y la CARRAGENINA. Algunas rodofíceas son ALGAS MARINAS importantes (macroalgas).

Scope note:

Red algae whose color results from predominace of the red pigment (PHYCOERYTHRIN). However, if this pigment is destroyed, the algae can appear purple, brown, green, or yellow. Two important substances found in the cell walls of red algae are AGAR and CARRAGEENAN. Some rhodophyta are notable SEAWEED (macroalgae).
