Scope note:	Herniación del tejido encefálico a través de un defecto congénito o adquirido del cráneo. La mayoría de los encefaloceles congénitos ocurren en las regiones occipital o frontal. Las manifestaciones clínicas comprenden una masa que protuye y que puede ser pulsátil. La cantidad y localización del tejido nervioso herniado determina el tipo y grado del déficit neurológico. Con frecuencia ocurren defectos visuales, retraso del desarrollo psicomotor y deficiencias motoras permanentes.

Scope note:

Brain tissue herniation through a congenital or acquired defect in the skull. The majority of congenital encephaloceles occur in the occipital or frontal regions. Clinical features include a protuberant mass that may be pulsatile. The quantity and location of protruding neural tissue determines the type and degree of neurologic deficit. Visual defects, psychomotor developmental delay, and persistent motor deficits frequently occur.
