VIRUS de replicación competente, selectivos de tumores, con efectos antineoplásicos.Logran esto mediante la producción de proteínas que incrementan la citotoxicidad o provocando una respuesta inmunitaria antitumoral. Son construidos mediante ingeniería genética de tal forma que puedan multiplicarse en las células MALIGNAS pero no en las células normales y se utilizan en VIROTERAPIA ONCOLÍTICA.

Scope note:

Tumor-selective, replication competent VIRUSES that have antineoplastic effects. This is achieved by producing cytotoxicity-enhancing proteins and/or eliciting an antitumor immune response. They are genetically engineered so that they can replicate in CANCER cells but not in normal cells, and are used in ONCOLYTIC VIROTHERAPY.
