Scope note: Regiones específicas que están cartografiadas en el interior de un GENOMA. Los sitios genéticos se identifican generalmente mediante una anotación taquigráfica abreviada que indica el número del cromosoma y la posición de una banda específica a lo largo del brazo P o Q del cromosoma donde se encuentran. Por ejemplo, el locus 6p21 se encuentra en la banda 21 del brazo P del cromosoma 6. Muchos loci genéticos bien conocidos también se denominan mediante nombres comunes que están asociados con la función genética o con la ENFERMEDAD HEREDITARIA.
