Scope note: Acontecimientos que tienen valores extremos de variables meteorológicas importantes. Extremo se define generalmente como que alcanza valores máximos o que supera los umbrales máximos preexistentes. Estos acontecimientos suelen ser raros; por ejemplo, velocidades extremas del viento superiores al valor de retorno para 100 años, que tienen una probabilidad de ocurrir en cualquier año concreto de solo 0,01. (Stephenson, 2008)

Such events are generally rare; for example, extreme wind speeds exceeding the 100-year return value, which have a probability of only 0.01 of occurring in any particular year. (Stephenson, 2008)
