Se caracteriza clínicamente por anomalías electrocardiográficas (ondas T elevadas y ondas P deprimidas, pudiendo llegar a producirse una asistolia auricular). En los casos más graves se puede producir debilidad y parálisis flácida. (Dorland, 27th ed)
