Scope note: Enfermedad nutricional producida por un déficit de magnesio en la dieta, caracterizada por anorexia, nausea, vomitos, letargo y debilidad. Los síntomas son parestesias, calambres musculares, irritabilidad, intervalo de atención disminuído y confusión mental, requiriendo, posiblemente, meses para aparecer. El déficit de magnesio en el organismo puede existir aún cuando los valores en suero sean normales. Además, el déficit de magnesio puede ser selectivo por órganos, ya que ciertos tejidos se tornan deficitarios antes que otros.
