Scope note: Tumor raro del aparato genital femenino, sobre todo del ovario, que anteriormenete se consideraba derivado de restos mesonéfricos. Se reconocen dos variedades: el carcinoma de células claras, llamado así por su semejanza histológica con el carcinoma de células renales y que ahora se considera derivado del conducto de Mueller, y un tumor embrionario (también llamado TUMOR DEL SENO ENDODÉRMICO y tumor del savo vitelino), que afecta sobre todo a los niños. La última variedad también puede afectar a los testículos. (Dorland, 27th ed)

Two varieties are recognized: (1) clear cell carcinoma, so called because of its histologic resemblance to renal cell carcinoma, and now considered to be of muellerian duct derivation and (2) an embryonal tumor (called also ENDODERMAL SINUS TUMOR and yolk sac tumor), occurring chiefly in children.
