Scope note: Uno de los elementos del par de órganos excretores que crece caudalmente al primer par (PRONEFROS) durante el desarrollo. El mesonefros da lugar al riñón permanente en los anfibios y peces adultos. En los vertebrados superiores degenera el pronefros y la mayor parte del mesonefros al aparecer el metanefros. Los conductos remanentes se transforman en los CONDUCTOS DE WOLFF.

Scope note: One of a pair of excretory organs (mesonephroi) which grows caudally to the first pair (PRONEPHROI) during development. Mesonephroi are the permanent kidneys in adult amphibians and fish. In higher vertebrates, proneprhoi and most of mesonephroi degenerate with the appearance of metanephroi. The remaining ducts become WOLFFIAN DUCTS.
