Scope note: Cualquiera de las especies BRASSICA que reciben el nombre común de mostaza. La Brassica juncea o mostaza china es marrón, mientras que la Brassica nigra es la mostaza negra, marrón o roja. Esta planta se cultiva tanto por sus semillas de mostaza, de las que se extrae un aceite o se usan como ESPECIAS, como por sus partes verdes, que se utilizan como VERDURA o como ALIMENTACIÓN ANIMAL. No tienen ninguna relación con los COMPUESTOS DE MOSTAZA. La mostaza blanca es una especia que se obtiene de un género afín (SINAPSIS ALBA).

Scope note: Any of several BRASSICA species that are commonly called mustard. Brassica juncea is brown or Chinese mustard, and Brassica nigra is black, brown, or red mustard. The plant is grown both for mustard seed from which oil is extracted or used as SPICES, and for its greens used as VEGETABLES or ANIMAL FEED. There is no relationship to MUSTARD COMPOUNDS.
