Scope note: Afección caracterizada por episodios recurrentes de somnolencia diurna y lapsos de inconsciencia (microsomnias) que pueden asociarse con conductas automáticas y AMNESIA. Con frecuencia la CATAPLEJÍA, PARÁLISIS DEL SUEÑO y ALUCINACIONES hipnagógicas acompañan a la narcolepsia. La fisiopatología de este trastorno incluye movimientos oculares rápidos al comienzo del sueño (REM), que normalmente se producen después de la etapa III o IV del sueño. Scope note: A condition characterized by recurrent episodes of daytime somnolence and lapses in consciousness (microsomnias) that may be associated with automatic behaviors and AMNESIA. CATAPLEXY; SLEEP PARALYSIS, and hypnagogic HALLUCINATIONS frequently accompany narcolepsy.
