Scope note: Aceites que se evaporan fácilmente. Los aceites volátiles se dan en plantas aromáticas, a las que confieren olor y otras características. Los aceites más volátiles constan de una mezcla de dos o más TERPENOS o de una mezcla de un eleopteno (el constituyen más volátil de un aceite volátil) con un estearopteno (el constituyente más sólido). El término sinónimo aceites esenciales hace referencia a la esencia de una planta, como su perfume o aroma, y no a que sea indispensable.
