Nota de alcance: Estructura en forma de X formada por la decusación de los dos nervios ópticos. En el quiasma óptico las fibras de la porción medial de cada retina se cruzan hacia el lado opuesto del encéfalo, en tanto que las fibras retinianas laterales continúan en el mismo lado. Como resultado de esta disposición cada hemisferio cerebral recibe información del campo visual contralateral de ambos ojos.

Nota de alcance: The X-shaped structure formed by the meeting of the two optic nerves. At the optic chiasm the fibers from the medial part of each retina cross to project to the other side of the brain while the lateral retinal fibers continue on the same side. As a result each half of the brain receives information about the contralateral visual field from both eyes.
