Nota de alcance: Es la vesícula interrmedia de las tres vesículas primitivas del encéfalo embrionario. Sin ulterior división, el mesencéfalo se transforma en una porción corta, constreñida, que conecta el PUENTE y el DIENCÉFALO. El mesencéfalo contiene dos partes principales, el TECHO DEL MESENCÉFALO dorsal y el TEGMENTO MESENCEFÁLICO ventral, que contienen componentes de los sistemas auditivo, visual y otros sistemas sensitivomotores.
