Nota de alcance: Algas rojas cuyo color se debe al predominio del pigmento rojo (FICOERITRINA). Sin embargo, si se destruye este pigmento, las algas pueden tener un aspecto púrpura, pardo, verde o amarillo. Dos sustancias importantes halladas en las paredes celulares de las algas rojas son el AGAR y la CARRAGENINA. Algunas rodofíceas son ALGAS MARINAS importantes (macroalgas).
